Re: REBUILD FROM INDEX

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Apr 14, 2005
Ina,

The ONLY option of MAINTAIN INDEX that maintains the dups order is FROM
INDEX. Don't think you can change the size of the SR8 and use this
option easily. You could probably fake it out by manually changing some
things, but that could be risky. BUILD is for new indexes and I'm
pretty sure will fail if there is an SR7 already out there for the
index.

If you are changing the number of entries in the SR8, the physical size
of the page or the index area, I'd use UNLOAD/RELOAD, which also
maintains the dups order.

Perhaps I should state my reason why I want to do REBUILD rather than
BUILD.
It's because my index is DUPLICATE LAST hence I need to keep the order
of duplicate.

Subject: REBUILD FROM INDEX

In the past I have done Maintain index using BUILD option to some of
our indexes ( to a new definition of my new segment/DMCL).
(to my understanding, doing BUILD is really the same as doing REBUILD
FROM
MEMBER?)
Can someone tell me if I can do 'REBUILD FROM INDEX' to a new
definition of segment (lager page, different SR8 etc) ?

Thankyou.

S-0C4 in IDMSINTC at 64-bit OS/390 2.10
"Fellow Listers:

We just implemented 64 bit mode for OS/390 release 2.10 this past
weekend. Our test IDMS 12.01 (9809) CV IDMSINTC module abended with
S0C4 when test CICS region was brought up. This did not happen on the
production region. There is an APAR for the problem for 14.1 (9811);
but, not for 12.01. Did any of y'all experience this problem? And,
more importantly, do you know of a patch or other work-around.
Interestingly, the APAR says this is caused by a bad address in register
2; but, it only happened once. The test CICS region successfully
started as did the IDMS CV. My boss, the head sysprog is dealing with
this through CA; but, knowing this group often has first (burnt) hand
experience, I figured I'd ask.

Thanks,

we were the site that discovered this bug in 12.01 (there may have been
others at the same time, but there was no test fix prior to us reporting
the problem) - I applied this in approx May of 2001 (we moved to 14.1 in
sept of that year)

the best I can do is give you the line of code that was changed/added:
from the 14.1 zap

ST R6,TWAGLBLA SAVE A(INTCGLBL).

it appears to be withing th following paragraph (next to the last line)

.STGP1A ANOP UCF/131
LA R15,DFHEIEND-DFHEISTG Length of temp stg. UCF/104
LR R1,R15 MVCL l'target = l'source UCF/104
LR R0,R5 A(target) = A(perm stg). UCF/104
LR R14,R12 A(source) = A(temp stg). UCF/104
MVCL R0,R14 Move temp to perm. UCF/104
LR R12,R5 Put perm EISTG into R12
ST R12,EISTGADR SAVE EISTG ADDRESS DKKEP009
ST R6,TWAGLBLA SAVE A(INTCGLBL).
B INTCSTRT Do INTC startup. UCF/104

keep in mind this is 14.1 code - i would inspect your 12.01 IDMSINTC for a
similar paragraph
