PHP question

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on May 6, 2005
PHP is an open-source programming language that runs under Linux. It is
my understanding that it does not include support for standard ODBC or
JDBC drivers like IDMS Server, and can only be used with databases that
provide a proprietary API.

Can anyone verify this? Has anyone successfully accessed IDMS (network
or relational) from a PHP program, and how did you do it?

You might be able to use Pear:DB for ODBC connectivity from
<URL:http://pear.php.net/>.

PHP will run under systems other than Linux or Unix.

However, I will share them.

Running IDMS 16.0 with a PDSE
"Hi,

Just figured out a startup problem when you want to use a PDSE that
includes your global DMCL.

We are just converting our Development system to 16.0 SP1 + apars. We
use PDSE libraries for our DMCL and subschema load libraries and COBOL
program loads. If you have the Global DMCL in a PDSE and use the special
startup JCL as QI63633 specifies then you must make your PDSE that has
the Global DMCL in it is the first library after the CA90s library. If
you do not you will get a 3993 abend with message DC390014 saying that
your Global DMCL load cannot be found.

PS - note there are problems with PDSE support in z/OS 1.6 see the new
manual SG24-6106-01 Partitioned Data Set Extended Usage Guide from IBM.
These sound like major performance problems.

Re: Mixed page group
"Laura,

The only problem we've had is with utilities. Restructure is fine, but you
shouldn't run Unload/Reload or Maintain Index using a mixed page group
subschema. The reason I say shouldn't is that sometimes it works and other
times it fails with really bizarre error messages.
