Hi Fred -

We never ran VTERM but I can tell you what we DID run - BIM-WNDOW from
Ben Moyle. It was very easy to set up and use and, as you might guess
if you have any other of Ben's products, the support was excellent.
Since BIM's acquisition by CSI in 2002 after Ben's death, I have no
reason to believe that any of this has changed as the BIM employees
themselves interviewed all the prospective buyers and chose CSI
themselves, and those I am still in touch with today appear to be happy
with everything.

Here's a link to the documentation, FWIW:

ftp://bimsrvic.bimoyle.com/download/Product-Manuals/CSI-WNDOW/Wndow%204.

Hope this is helpful.

A TCP/IP Question or Two
"I would like to pose a question to those who are working with the IDMS
TCP/IP feature.

In looking at the IDMS literature, it appears that implementation of the
TCP/IP feature should be fairly straightforward.

We all know that documentation does not lie (but it doesn't always tell the
whole truth either). :-)

I wonder then, are there any ""gotchas"" to be aware of as we start down
this path ?

In addition, if/when we get to implementation, how is the reliability
and stability of this access ?

Re: A TCP/IP Question or Two
"We've been using TCP/IP with Release 16.0 SP(1) for some months now. We have
a couple of ADS/O dialogs in production - one is a server another is a
client (reaches out to Java land to bring some Oracle data back to the
mainframe world). The ""bulk terminals"", the generic listener and the
similarity to the CICS Sockets (if you're familiar with that) all serve to
make it easy to get started and be productive. The production transactions
have been ""rock solid"" in so far as reliability goes.
