Bill:

I have a hard copy of ""UNDERSTANDING DBKEY DEADLOCKS"" presented at User
Week '86, presented and written by Don Casey - Cullinet Software.
You're welcome to it, if you copy and return.

Subject: Dead locking Information

Hello All:

Anyone have any tips, tricks, techniques, documentation, white papers or
CA World Presentations on Dead Locking?

I would be grateful if you would share them with me. I already have the
CA World 2004 Presentations.

Re: Dead locking Information
"We've determined long ago that ""some"" deadlocking is the cost of doing
business.
As to what ""some"" is, again we determined less than 1% of total
transaction (we're actually much lower than that.
(We report deadlocks to upper management because a VP long ago couldn't
explain the issue and lead upper management to believe that deadlocks
were of major concern and slowing system response time.)

We're instituted ""retry logic"" so the task doesn't kill the user and it
is working quite well. We still get the deadlocks reported, but most
are retried and tasks proceed.

Of more concern to me here, and that have direct affect on runtime,
system CPU, etc, are the ""DBKEY waits""!
