Third Party Vendors for TCP/IP IDMS Access

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Nov 3, 2005
I would like to pose a question to members of the list.

Our applications folks are contemplating getting a third party product for
TCP/IP access to IDMS-DC systems instead of developing such applications in
house. The ""buy vs. build"" question might make sense if the economics are
right and the products work reasonably well.

I would like to hear from folks who are using such products to get a sense
of the technical feasibility issues.

TIA

Re: DAR vs. suggestion - Are they the same thing?
"Development takes decades to get off the dime. I'm not knocking IDMS
technical support, compared to what's out there it really is in a class
in itself, but look how long it took to relaease a TCP/IP line driver
into general distribution? Ver 16.0? I asked the development liaison
in 1992 when IDMS will come out with a TCP/IP line driver and the answer
I got was, line driver? It's called a socket. End of story.

DAR vs. suggestion - Are they the same thing?
"I also entered a couple of suggestions, neither of which appeared on the
IUA list. I realize that my concerns may not be top priority for
others. But now I am starting to wonder if the ""suggestion box"" on
Support Connect actually generates a DAR.
