I would use VERIFY to test the field. This statement would be true if
it found a character NOT in the string.

IF VER(WK-FIELD,'0123456789ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ ') NE 0
THEN
DISPLAY TEXT 'INVALID SPECIFICATION FOR FIELD'.

Subject: ADS question

Hi everyone,

I have what I hope is a very simple question, but I can't find the
answer. In ADS, I need to test to make sure a field does not contain
any special characters. In other words, the 8 bytes field can contain A
thru Z, 0 thru 9, in any combination, but no other character is
permitted. Is there an easy way to test for this ?

Thanks,
Laura Rochon
Ajilon

"Rene - The VERIFY returns the position of the first character NOT in the
string - space would also be caught unless you added it to the string.

space

IF VER(WK-FIELD,'0123456789ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ ') NE 0 THEN
DISPLAY TEXT 'INVALID SPECIFICATION FOR FIELD'.

7.45 VERIFY
Purpose: Returns the position of the first character in a string
value that does not occur in a verification string. If every
character in the input string value occurs in the verification
string, a zero is returned.

Re: Going SOS in Pool 255
"Hi,

We have increased resources, especially SYSLOCKS and will try this again
today. We also have TC28483 to stop the SYSTEM MODULE PROGRAM CHECKED
NEAR RHDCSTGP AT OFFSET 328 when the pool goes SOS but need to test this
first.

As SYSLOCKS go overflow we could consider a COMMIT be added to the
program. Looking at the DML Reference - COBOL manual it implies that
COMMIT ALL would release the locks. Would a plain COMMIT also release
the SYSLOCKS? The manual does not imply that this is the case.

Thanks

Chris
