Re:CA World 2007 and IDMS

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Sep 18, 2006
Hi,
I know it's bit early and schedule is not even published so I
have browsed some 2005 topics to find out what kind of
idms-presentations are available in general. They all seem very
interesting but is there anything else, longer presentations
etc, for example has IUA presentations in CAW also? I looked
google archive (apparently this list is mirrored to usenet) and
seems like that during previous years IUA has had some pre-CAW
courses? Any general tips to create a schedule are also
welcome. My view to topics is a view of a DBA, a beginner
level, so I believe as a novice I might benefit a lot if I
could attend the CA World (any arguments are also greatly
appreciated). In work I have used CA-products for many years
though, ADS and so on.

Sad News
"It is with great sadness that I inform the CA-IDMS community of the
passing of
Bob Currie after a long battle with cancer.

Bob served on the IUA board for over 6 years. Bob served in many
capacities
on the IUA board including Secretary/Treasurer, Education committee
chair,
workshop chair for the Montreal workshop and CA World committee
chairperson.
Most recently he was instrumental in organizing the April 2006 IUA
workshop in
Dallas as the workshop chair.

Bob was intelligent, energetic, dedicated to the CA-IDMS cause, and fun
to work with.
He enjoyed working on projects that connected CA-IDMS to web
applications. Bob also
shared his knowledge by teaching at IUA workshops and at CA World.

We will all miss Bob and his contributions to our industry.

Our prayers go out to Bob's wife Michele, and his family.

Terry Schwartz
IUA Chair

IDMS Printing in CICS
"Kay,
We too see occasional printer disconnects.
I have nothing to explain why your procedure works.

However rather than kill the IDMS print task in CICS,
I use the following in IDMS:
1. In cv, dcmt v pri all drain
& dcmt v pte *** disconnect (where *** is any active pte)

This usually terminates the IDMS print task in CICS,
If not, then I pick another ""working"" pte to disconnect.

Then at the end, I add the following:
In CICS, re-start the IDMS print task.
In cv, start printers (dcmt pri all start).

Have a Good day,

Don

Z/OS 1.7 aborts
"Hello All:

When upgrading your OS to Z/OS 1.7 did anyone experience S0C4 aborts in any
batch jobs that they were executing?

For example IEBGENER tape to tape copies, or DFSMSDSS backups.

If you experienced this issue can you determine what the resolution was?

Your experience and help are greatly appreciated.

Re: Z/OS 1.7 aborts
"Bill, we have been on Z/OS 1.7 for a while now. If my failing memory
serves me correctly, I don't recall any particular problems in that
regard.

But the again, ""the mind is the first thing to go... I don't remember
what comes after that"". :-)

Perhaps region size could be an issue ? If not, maybe there is a
Z/OS maintenance issue.
