[IDMS-L] Unlinked Index

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Nov 2, 2006
We have the need to add an index to a Calc record. The index will be
Mandatory Automatic with Duplicates Last.

There are definitely advantages to adding this index as unlinked (no
restructure to data area, no relocated records, no orphans).

The access to the record will be done with an OBTAIN WITHIN set-name
USING, we do not anticipate any retrieval to the data area followed by
index traversal.

So, other than the obvious risk of poor performance if a program walks
up the index, are there any other issues with creating unlinked indexes?

Thanks,
Steve Nason
