Re: DB2 vs. IDMS

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Nov 29, 2006
Oh, I am not so sure Jim, some data navigations are pretty hard to
translate into one size fits all SQL, regardless whether it's DB2 and
all. There is a lot more overhead, especially when it comes to
security, that SQL does for validation then IDMS. Even the security
overhead in IDMS SQL can be a handful. Couple that with a high
transaction load, high volume data access, a dynamic sql gui based app
replacing purpose built legacy code and I can imagine applications where
SQL, not necessarily DB2, would require 100 times more overhead.

Re: zOS SYSLOG time versus timestamps in IDMS JOURNALs . . .
"It was obviously late at night when you looked at this - you may have
mixed the minutes and seconds up in the IDMS date/time stamp - looks to
me like the difference between the times is consistently 36'ish seconds.
I may be wrong - it's been known ;-) HTH
