Did my last message to the list come out garbled for everyone? I
got one response that it did. A couple of responses yeah or nay
would be a help.

Thanks.

Re: IDMS-L Digest - 7 Feb 2007 to 8 Feb 2007 (#2007-26)

Subject: DCMT TEST LRBK ?

Release 16 snuck a few new DCMTs into the CTAB, not at the end, but in
the middle. N097 is TEST LRBK, but I cannot find any reference in the
SYSTEM TASKS manual, nor anywhere else. The only references
to LRBK at
all are in relation to the ECB and an unrecovered transaction.

Does anybody know what this MT command use is?
------------------------------
I believe it is used in conjunction with DCMT TEST - it is not documented because I believe it is only intended to be used when instructed so by the support staff for diagnosis.

I can not believe you are having issues with such a ""greatttttttttt'
product.

Yes since the site was upgraded I ""occasionally"" get the same.

I also have an issue open with CA since 1/3 as I am returned message
""Error: Solution not found using aparno"" when selecting an APAR from a
search result.
------------------------------
I have had an issue open since 24 November, 2006. The Knowledge base searches have been broken that long. When I use more than 2-3 keywords I get a very truncated result set, and beginning then, putting the IDMS keyword before IDMSDC also seemed to be having a bad effect. In their ""efforts"" to fix it, they broke the sort by last modified date option, so now even using a smaller set of keywords than I was, I cannot identify what the new problem records are. I still say bring back Info-Tsis and webify it. Everything since then has been a step down. TCC was terrible at first, then there was that product with the goofy wizards which I refused to use. Support Connect was helped by the efforts of Kathy Mander who allowed me to Beta test it and get some shortcomings corrected before they drove the stake thru TCC, but now it seems like we have no contact from the IDMS staff that has any Support Connect influence since Kathy has been re-invented into some new area. It's appalling to say the least. Has anyone else noticed how all the Advantage? products appear with a question mark in Support Connect? Too funny.

As you can see it came thru garbled in the digest, but when I get one of these I find that copying the text into the pasteboard and taking it To:

resolves the base 64 conversion problem for me.

View ID on subschema record
"Does anyone out in IDMS-L land use view's on subschema records?
Specifically it is the VIEW ID parm on the RECORD statement within the
subschema definition.

Is there any noticeable overhead on the CV or on a batch job?

Have you run into any problems?

Do you have any advice on using this parm?

Thanks in advance for any help and comments.

Re: External run units
"Here's my rendition of what are considered external run units
internally. The context of 'internal' in this case is anything that
runs within the idms address space, aka cv, aka dc. But, first a bit of
history. First there was 'camp'. That's when the idms database engine
started running in its own address space, outside of the batch job
making idms dml calls(local mode). The idea was to be able to run
multiple batch jobs through one database engine, one set of datasets (as
opsys allocation frowns on multiple address spaces updating the same
dataset, great idea). Then along came DC, which added telecommunication
line drivers, like vtam/btam, and for the first time ran application
programs inside the idms address space, similar to other TP monitors,
but much better of course. All these enhancements were evolutionary,
not revolutionary. In other words, code was preserved, and features
added on. As such, there really are two internal run time environments,
the database engine and the ole cv (programs starting with IDMS....) and
the DC TP monitor environment whose modules start with RHDC.....
Anything running within the IDMS address space is considered internal.
Run units, like loader, scratch, queue, etc. are considered internal
run units. Application programs do not ready/bind/dml these database
areas of internal run-units, but IDMS/RHDC programs certainly do.
RHDCRUAL is their name. External run units are those that originate
externally, and in addition those that arrive in IDMS's address space
via an svc call. Those that come in through application programs that
run in IDMS's address space are not external run units. But, there are
exceptions, why, I dont know. The sysgen internal wait for example
applies to external run units, LOL, that are waiting internally in IDMS.
The CCI line spawns external run units. Why? Because the application
that does the dml is running outside of the IDMS address space (some GUI
on some desk/laptop). ADS via CICS, oy, there are several flavors of
this implementation. There's the old fashioned application running in
CICS invoking an ads application in IDMS, and then there's the kind that
initiates a CICS transaction from within the IDMS region
(UDAS....something, but I am vaguely recalling this). So, I am
guessing, but am not sure, ADS/CICS is also an external run-unit. Want
to know for sure? I look at PMRM and watch the task run. If the program
name is rhdcnp3s or something like it, then it's an external run-unit.
If it says adsorun...something, then it's internal. If it has a
sysgenned program name, and task code, it's internal. If it's a program
name from a dcmt vary dynamic program, its' internal. If it's
dynamically allocated PDE from ADS or Mapping, it's internal. Also do a
dcmt d ta whatever the adso dialog name is, and the use count should go
up. If it does, then it is internal. Hopefully the adso mainline
dialog is sysgenned as a task to invoke adsorun1, so the max concurrent
parm can be used. If not, then I dont know how to control the
concurrent volume of this kind of transaction load.

Ok, my guess, in a nut shell:

- Batch job (COBOL program). external run-unit
- Batch job (UCFBTCH). external run-unit
- ADS via CICS.- CICS/IDMS COBOL program. external
run-unit.....unless...see above
- CICS dedicated task. external run-unit
- CA-Server request (CCI line). external run-unit
- TSO interface. external run-unit
- VTAM/LINE internal run-unit

Re: External run units
"Rose,

Is does depended on why you want to know.

If you are looking at the SYSGEN parameter MAX ERUS then all but
CA-Server requests are.
The MAX ERUS parameter defines the number of EREs that will be allocated
at CV startup. I have seen ERE referred to as EXTERTNAL REQUEST UNIT
note RQUEST and Run Unit.

The UCF front end that is used by

- Batch job (UCFBTCH).
- ADS via CICS.
- CICS dedicated task.
- TSO interface.

Acquires an ERE to handle the converse between it and IDMS.

Hope this helps in some way but is a confusing area and calculating the
correct value of MAX ERUS to prevent 1473 errors can be tricky
particularly when you have a mix such as yours.
