I could never lay claim to that.

It was all to do with Kay Sussmann (apologies Kay if you are watching
this list if I did not get your surname right!) - She just said I could
tell it how it was - all I have ever said to her is either OK or ""you
are right!"". She wrote the presentation!
Cheers

PS Kay - I am passing the buck just in case it all goes =
pear-shaped......

OK, call off the dogs; I found what I needed in Martin Cox's ""1211

show, which is on the web along with all the other presentations from
that event at http://home.bt-webworld.com/ukiua/Roadshow/abstracts.htm.

OK, I need the syntax for the EXTEND SPACE IDD command.

I just moved to a new laptop and thought I had installed all the
softcopy manuals on the **** thing. Well, it looks like I did, but I
can't access any of them.

Now I need the manual and I can't get to it.

I seem to remember it's something like:

MODIFY PHYSICAL AREA <segment>.<area>
EXTEND SPACE
ADD FILE <ddname>
FROM 1 FOR ### PAGES
;

But IDD doesn't like ""ADD"" (or INTO, USING, ADDING, or anything else I
can think of).

Does anyone have a manual handy . . . ?

THANKS - reply directly to me since I'm in digest mode, if you would
be so kind.

THANK YOU!

Native VSAM with IBM VT
"My shop has some critical files stored in VSAM that we define to IDMS as
native VSAM. Those files will soon be moved to DB2. One of the possible
solutions we are looking at is IBM's VSAM Transparency. In theory, all of
our IDMS application code and schema defs would remain the same. IBM VT
would intercept any call to VSAM, access the data in DB2, then return the
data/results to IDMS using standard VSAM.

Has any IDMS-Lister used IBM VT in an IDMS environment? We can discuss
experiences off list.

Note: I am in digest mode, so I won't see any list replies until tomorrow.

Any insider information on R16 - SP5??
"Dear Listers -

Anybody privy as to when R16 - SP5 might be available?
It seems like it should be soon.

I have to make a decision for a client on which service level to install and won't be able to hold out for more than a couple more weeks before I'm forced to get started.

Thanks.

Re: Formula for calculating how much space needed for an Unload/Reload
"Hi Bill,

I have a couple of utility programs,
the first program generates syntax for a dban (based on the area to be
unloaded)
and the second program reads the dban output
and reports on the files sizes.

Here is some sample output:-

ddname__ ________nbr ___max_lgth _______blks _______trks
_______cyls
SYS002 203,503,772 520 728,873.0 364,437
24,296
SYS003 70,466,650 82 105,082.1 52,542
3,503
SYS004 203,503,772 520 728,873.0 364,437
24,296
SYS005 444,214,004 32 508,255.9 254,128

SYS011 411,100,871 28 411,513.8 205,757

Nothing worse than space problems during a production resize.
These figures a generally accurate within say 5%.

Drop me an email, and I will send you a zipped copy of the source.
They were added to the IUA in Aug 2004, but don't seem to be there anymore
:(

Thanks

Re: [IDMS-L] Formula for calculating how much space needed for an
Unload/Reload

Hello Linda:

No, I was hoping that someone had something to figure out the WORK space
needed during an Unload/Reload (SYS002, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc.) of some of the
CAS
Data Base Areas. The Utilities manual has a formula but it is almost
impossible
to use for CAS because of the numerous record and set types and all of the
cross area pointers.

I also now how to compute the size of a normal IDMS Data Base, thanks for
the suggestions so far, but I am really after a tool to compute the WORK
space
required and not a data base area.

Thanks for your time and support.
