Modifying an IDD record

OK, I'm adding some fields to an existing database record, actually
carving some bytes out of an already-allocated FILLER area. I haven't
done this in a while (we're a CAS shop) so did some experimentation on
my test dictionary, and I have the process all figured out except for
when the time comes to actually make the change to the record - the only
way I have been able to get the changes into the record (once it's been
'detached' from the schema) is to delete the record and re-add it with
the new record layout.

Of course, as far as what fields are available to dialogs and programs
that use the record, this accomplished my objective, but surely I'm
missing something.

Anyone have any words of wisdom for me?

Thanks as usual to all the great folks on IDMS-L who are always ready
and willing to help.

Re: Modifying an IDD record
"Hi Mike,

Determine the line number of the filler, add your new elements starting with that line number and finish with a filler equal to the remainder.

for example:
In the original CUST-ITM record the filler of X(12) begins at line 2000. To add the Delivery-Flag element X(1), code the following:

MOD REC CUST-ITM VERSION 1.
REPLACE RECORD ELEMENT DELIVERY-FLAG VER 1 LINE 2000.
RECORD ELEMENT 'FIL 0011' VER 1 LINE 2010.

Give me a call if you want to talk more about this.

"MOD REC ***-REC V N.
Rec ele is new-ele v 1 line number is nnnn. <=== for the added
element
REP REC ELE IS OLD-ELE V N. <=== for the changed element.

Just had to do this recently after over a year of no changes.
