Re: EFB Abend in IDMS Startup Module After Microcode Upgrade

Roger,
The SExx abends are security abends. The SVC number is the last 2 digits (x'FB' or 251). Make sure your CAS9 job loaded the SVC correctly and from the right load library. Also, look at your SRTT and make sure you are using the right SVC. Most likely it is a problem with the CAS9 job which loads the SVC.

Good luck.

Subject: EFB Abend in IDMS Startup Module After Microcode Upgrade

Hail, Listers!

My boss/sysprog upgraded the microcode on our IBM Z800 mainframe
yesterday and the IDMS CVs are abending on startup with sEFB right after
the security initialization. The OS is OS390 2.10. This is an SVC
problem; but, we can't figure out why it's happening. The bossman is
working with IBM and CA; but, knowing the caliber of genius available on
this list, I figured I'd throw the problem your way to see what help you
all can offer. We're still on 12.01 at 9809. I will appreciate any
insight you can provide.

Thanks,

I am experimenting with writing our PMAM records to SMF instead of to
the IDMS log, for performance reasons. My question is about PMSMFEX,
the CA-supplied Culprit program that archives the performance monitor
records from the SMF file. PMSMFEX is working as advertised - my
SMF-derived reports look identical to the ones derived from the log.
But PMSMFEX runs for hours each night, and requires 10 or more scratch
tapes for the Culprit SYS008 file. Is this normal? Is there any to
speed it up?
kay - yes there is - i wrote a culprit version 3 years ago that sped it up
by 10% - but I lost it - i am in the process of re-writing it - if you have
quikjob - I havd a quikjob version that runs in about 1% of the time (no
intermediate sort) - if you can use this (or have another language to use
(EARL? EZYTRIEVE?) let me know and I will send a copy to you

"Many thanks to those who responded (you know who you are) about this
problem. Everything was OK with the SVC set up. For reasons we cannot
fathom, the RHDCSSFM module used to read from the link list; but, now
has to be in a steplib. The only change was an upgrade to microcode on
the mainframe followed by an IPL. This machine has been IPL'ed many
times at this level of OS without this issue. The solution came from Ed
McKinney of CA. Many, many thanks to Ed for his wonderful support. Of
course, that's Ed's usual modus operandum, right?

"Did it need an LLA refresh? An authorized library, which is where
RHDCSSFM and CAIRIM needs it to run from is not usually in the
linklist. Perhaps the lib got removed form the linklist?

"Hi, Lutz.

According to my sysprog, no changes were made to the linklist. He
verified that several times between Sunday morning and Monday evening
(when we finally got IDMS back up). I'll run your thoughts by him
anyway; but, in the ten years I've known him, he has always been
excruciatingly thorough.

IDD question
"Does anyone know of an easy way to display the size of IDD items (DDLDML

Kay, The INQ-058 dictionary record has the length of individual record elements. In this case FIS-LOCATION-NUMBER has a picture of 9(5) represented by ELEM-LGTH-058 H +00005.
