COBOL calls

When calling one DC-COBOL program from another, is there a big
performance difference between doing a TRANSFER CONTROL LINK vs. doing a
COBOL call?

Re: Shark SAN 3390 Emulation
"Hi Steve:

At one time, file sizes were limited to 65,535 blocks (x'FFFF' ""magic
number""). I absolutely know this was true for Datacom, and suspect it was
also true for IDMS. It's not a big deal, but if you had an area that was
split over multiple files because of that limitation, you might be tempted
to reorg the area into one huge file and exceed the limit. I'd check with
tech support...

Our shop is going to stop emulating only 3390 model 3 (triple density)
disk packs and start emulating model 9's. Database files of 10,000
cylinders in size will be possible. Are there any drawbacks? Thanks in
advance.

Re: Shark SAN 3390 Emulation
"I had an issue with CA on this subject: Issue Number: 15672453-1: LIMIT MAXIMUM TRACKS FOR BDAM
For I knew BDAM had a limit of 65,535 tracks or 4369 Cylinders for a FILE.

My question to CA was:
With z/os 1.6 and beyond (may be z/os 1.7), there is an allocation parameter
of DSNTYPE=LARGE, that allows the BDAM limit of 65,535 to be exceeded.

If I allocate of file with DSNTYPE=LARGE can IDMS address more than 65,535
tracks without any issues?

Answer from CA was:
Talked with Client, we currently don't support DSNTYPE=LARGE, will be addedin 17.0.

"....and the reason this works is that IDMS-DC traps both the LOAD and the
GETSG SVCs issued by COBOL (thru SVC screening that is enabled when a COBOL
pgm is entered), and converts them into the appropriate #LOAD and #GETSTG
constructs. FWIW
