COBOL calls

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Sep 26, 2007
When calling one DC-COBOL program from another, is there a big
performance difference between doing a TRANSFER CONTROL LINK vs. doing a
COBOL call?

Shark SAN 3390 Emulation
"Our shop is going to stop emulating only 3390 model 3 (triple density)
disk packs and start emulating model 9's. Database files of 10,000
cylinders in size will be possible. Are there any drawbacks? Thanks in
advance.

Re: COBOL calls
"I seem to recall that a call to a dynamic (sub)program generates an SVC
call. A TRANSFER CONTROL (LINK) would not require the SVC as it's
already defined to DC (or CICS.) I'm not sure what happens with a call
to a static (sub)program.

(Note: dynamic call = 05 prog-name pic 9(08) value 'subprogm'. ....
Call prog-name ...
Static call = call 'subprogm' ... )
