.....and the reason this works is that IDMS-DC traps both the
LOAD and the GETSG SVCs issued by COBOL (thru SVC screening
that is enabled when a COBOL pgm is entered), and converts them
into the appropriate #LOAD and #GETSTG constructs. FWIW

Re: COBOL calls
"Thanks Don. To elaborate a little further, IO completions do not
interrupt IDMS executions. MVS stacks IO in such a way that IDMS
doesn't have to do an MVS wait until an IO completes. Neither does MVS
interrupt IDMS when an IO completes. The FLIH is not all that lean,
but a few hundred instructions is not a big deal when compared to
interrupting a job, then redispatching it. Mind you, this is a COBOL
application program running in IDMS that's putting IDMS into a wait
state with every call of a subroutine. This could be substantial in an
online application, IDMS DC, with high transaction rates. I think
substantial enough to test dynam or nodynam to get some benchmarks, with
volume.

Re: IUA Connections Summer 2007 edition now available for download
"It's wonderful to see Connections resurrected, however .................

I sign in to the website and go to the links as directed. There is the
list of archives, none of which are clickable links. Is it the site or
something I'm doing wrong??

Go to http://www.iuassn.org Access ""Archives"" then ""Connections""
At CA-World last April I took on the task of restarting publication of
""IUA Connections"". The last issue came out about 26-27 months ago -
after some false starts we are back in production. Attached is the
result of pulling together content from contributors all across the US,
Europe, and Australia. The Desktop Publishing was done by Becki Shaw who
has been living in England for many years - but is currently in Atlanta,
Georgia. The whole operation was coordinated from Adelaide (South
Australia). That's life in a ""well wired world""! Here's what Judy
Kruntorad had to say after she saw the Summer 2007 issue of Connections:
""Gary,
Nice job! .....<snip>..... This publication offers significant value to
the IDMS customers.
Congratulations!
Judy
Judith M . Kruntorad

Vice President
CA IDMS Product Line Manager""
I hope that you do find some value from the issue, and that you will
share it with many others in your respective organisations so that they
too can get value from the work that has been done.
Cheers - Gary
