Redefinition to a new name of an existing field in the existing

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Oct 12, 2007
IDMS record

Hi all IDMS expert,

Would like to check whether is it possible to redefine the name of an
existing field in the existing record to a new name as the users do not
want to rename the existing field name. If can, what is the command to
make
the redefine? Any impact that we need to take care of? Thks

We are new to IDMS.

Thks in advance for the advise.

EVENTRECTIFICATION

I saw a reference in the BIUA meeting to using Eclipse with the IDMS
data dictionary.
I suppose I should ask Luc Hermans n'est ce pas?
Has anyone heard about this before? Is it an experimental step by CA?
As an avid Eclipse and IBM's WD4z user I find myself intrigued...

Support Connect product list
"Several weeks ago, all of our site's IDMS products disappeared from the
Support Connect product list, making it impossible to open problems
online. After working on this problem for a month, the Support Connect
(not the same group as IDMS support) final solution is as follows:
- All IDMS products appear in the list with a question mark (?) and
the literal ""EN"" inserted somewhere in the name - location varies.
- ""General DBIO"", the category that I use the most, appears as a
sub-component of Database Analyzer, which is part of the IDMS tool kit.

Is this normal? Does everyone else's product list look like this?

"Kay -

I didn't lose ALL products, just the one I care about most - IDMS-DB.
I lost it from 2 sites I do work for.

I opened an issue with Support Connect and they asked me to send them proof
that we are authorized to use this product.
Yeh, well, whatever.......

I see GENERAL IDMS ROUTINES listed as a component, but this doesn't really
list much in ""Published Solutions"".

Thanks.

Re: BIUA Belgium and The Netherlands IDMS User Group EVENTRECTIFICATION
"Hi Dan,
Indeed Luc can give more information, our perhaps we see you on our
event (or better Luc is always ready to cross over the ocean to expose
the session.)

I can give you the abstract herewith
""Part 1 of this presentation introduced the 'DMLJ Navigational Database
API"".
This API allows Java objects to be retrieved from non-SQL CA IDMS
database files.

This second part introduces the recently developed 'DMLJ Eclipse
plug-in'. This plug-in
assists in putting the 'DMLJ Navigational Database API' to work in Java
applications. It also
provides a unique feature that allows for the exploration of non-SQL CA
IDMS database,
dictionary and catalog files within the Eclipse environment. After a
quick tour of the current
version of the DMLJ API, the main features of the plug-in are discussed.
A small demo will
show that programatically navigating non-SQL CA IDMS data is very
similar to navigating
Java object trees. I use the DMLJ API and plug-in whenever I need a
custom dictionary tool.

The presentation contains a lot of examples and screen shots that
illustrate the power at hand when dealing with navigational database
access within Eclipse and it is scheduled for November 30th in the
Brussels area.
