How are those of you in the U.S. handling the switch from DST to
Standard Time this weekend? The provider we rent mainframe time from
insists that the only way to handle the change is to shut down the
machine and wait an hour, and that this is true of zOS, IDMS, DB2, and
everything that produces recovery logs. They even state that we are at
recovery risk by letting our Unix boxes run for that hour.

My PC and even my VCR can handle the change, is it true that some of the
most advanced computer systems in the world can't deal with this simple
task?

"We are shutting down for an hour. Technically, you don't have to. But
why take a chance? Even if all the system software can handle it, can
your user-written code handle it?
