Re:CPU Effectiveness on IDMS 16.0 SP1

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Jan 18, 2008
Hi,

We just upgraded our processor from a z800 2066-0X2 to a z9 2096-I01.

Our CPU Effectiveness was in the 75% plus range and now it flounders in
the 55% to 64% range. Only 4 days worth of info to look at so far.

Looking at the DCMT D SUBTASK 01 we can see the System mode CPU time is
down a lot and from DCMT D SUBTASK EFFECTIVENESS the Elapsed time is
down, but as a percentage, less than the decrease in System mode CPU
time.

Obviously we seem to be getting better throughput with the new processor
but have we lost efficiency? The SP1 manual doesn't really say very much
about the effectiveness and what a good value is. I asked similar
questions when we went 16.0 SP1 in 2005 and Edward Timm mentioned WLM.
Is this something I should ask our system's guys if WLM needs to be
re-configured?

Thanks

LE Options for z/OS 1.8
"Hi,

We are just about to go to 1.8 from 1.6. It does not look as though LE
options needed for COBOL compiling have changed from 1.6 to 1.8. Can
someone confirm please? This is usually Steve Harmeson.

Thanks

Re: LE Options for z/OS 1.8
"Hi Chris,

We are running z/OS 1.8 CA-IDMS 16.0 SP4 (going to z/OS 1.9 soon). Make
sure you check out apar QO88752 for LE COBOL. This has to do with T03C
abends in DC-COBOL programs with z/OS 1.8. Once I applied this there
were no other problems, I did not have to change anything else.

HTH,
Steve Harmeson
