It's all in the money. Off shore work cost's next to nothing. The same
problem applies to retraining. Dick Richard Pierce (617) 973-8911 -----Original Message----- From: IDMS Public

are lots of us around but as Lutz mentioned, IDMS has dried up in most
of the more desirable and/or affordable places to live. If companies
would allow telecommuting they would never have a problem getting
people. It fascinates me that they have no problem shipping jobs off to
India and China but don't trust their own citizens to work remotely.

find the IDMS Programmers? I have worked with IDMS since 1985 as well as

Re: Is this difficult?
"That's not exactly true about coming from the user community.

I, for one, started in IDMS as a user, with IDMS CAMP. There was no DC, we
used TaskMaster (I think that was what it was called). I then moved to
another user site where, after an extensive analysis of DBMSs available
(about 23 if I remember right), we selected IDMS, and none of the IBM
products made it to the top 3. Through all of this I was an application
programmer, DBA, DCA and bug fixer. Yes, I fixed some bugs and then told
support how I fixed it. I worked with all aspects of the IDMS products as a
client BEFORE I ever became a Cullinet employee. That is probably why I
worked in both DB and DC Level 1 before advancing to DB Level 2 where I
still work on DB and occasionally some DC related issues, though concentrate
more on SQL issues right now.

I don't know if anyone else in the group came from the user community, but
I, for one, did.
