Well, in regards to L2 CA support et al, I dont think any of them had
IDMS experience at user sites in the first place. I've heard one of
their managers comment that it's impossible to find local BAL expertise.
I doubt that they'll find it in India either. CA's management, and
Cullinet for that, reasoning has always escaped me, but I think it may
be safe to say that the IDMS folks do not drive CA corporate management
decisions in Islandia.

"I remember using Interact. That used to be Wilbur I think. One of their support people became a big wig in IDMS.
I liked using interact, not that different from ISPF, if I remember right, but it's been a long time ago. On the other hand, TSIS was inhouse written, and I always found it a lot more intuitive then Infoplex.

Re: Is this difficult?
"What I remember of our venture into hardware, was when their corporate support staff moved in with Cullinet's corporate staff. The folks were carrying pcs the size of big 27 inch crt tvs, circuit boards, soldering irons, etc. Cullinet people at that time were all software, mainframe folks, not even from an operations background where you'd expect some familiarity with hardware. The lack of synergy struck me dumfounded. Happens a lot to me. Then I found out that the core support staff was playing ice hockey with big John. Then my lights went on.

My first job as an IDMS DBA we had TrashMaster as a tp monitor and I remember building screens with a card punch as we didn't have access to TSO.

Hey as long as we are fessing up to our being chronologically gifted...

I remember working at a shop that made us use Interact. We got it with =
our contract from Cullinet. TSO was considered too much of a resource =
hog (!?) for just us common database folk. When I would attend Cullinet =
training I would spend a good deal of my lab time showing classmates how =
to use Interact to do the exercises.
