Well, in regards to L2 CA support et al, I dont think any of them had
IDMS experience at user sites in the first place. I've heard one of
their managers comment that it's impossible to find local BAL expertise.
I doubt that they'll find it in India either. CA's management, and
Cullinet for that, reasoning has always escaped me, but I think it may
be safe to say that the IDMS folks do not drive CA corporate management
decisions in Islandia.

TaskMaster? I haven't heard anyone talk about TaskMaster in 28 years.
You must be really really old (like me)!

That's not exactly true about coming from the user community.

I, for one, started in IDMS as a user, with IDMS CAMP. There was no DC,
we
used TaskMaster (I think that was what it was called). I then moved to
another user site where, after an extensive analysis of DBMSs available
(about 23 if I remember right), we selected IDMS, and none of the IBM
products made it to the top 3. Through all of this I was an application
programmer, DBA, DCA and bug fixer. Yes, I fixed some bugs and then told
support how I fixed it. I worked with all aspects of the IDMS products
as a
client BEFORE I ever became a Cullinet employee. That is probably why I
worked in both DB and DC Level 1 before advancing to DB Level 2 where I
still work on DB and occasionally some DC related issues, though
concentrate
more on SQL issues right now.

I don't know if anyone else in the group came from the user community,
but
I, for one, did.

Re: Is this difficult?
"I am an American who would like to have IDMS work again. The bottom line
is that out sourcing is cheaper for the employer; all of the other
excuses are an attempt to hide the greed. Poor people are being
exploited in the name of profit. It does make sense to have each country
specialize in what they do best, however this is not what is going on.
Employers are just moving work to the country with the lowest standard
of living in order to gain the greatest profit. This method will not
support the needs of their customers. For example America would not be
the best country to grow coffee.

Dear Mr. Employer if your best customers cannot earn money because their
jobs no longer exist they will not be able to pay the high prices you
lust after. You will be required to sell your products in a market where
the prices will have to be lowered. If you price your product to high
you will have no demand. Remember the law of supply and demand? Your
product will be worth less and less, we depend on each other. All you
have accomplished is to destroying the standard of living in one of the
world greatest countries. Soon other countries will be affected too, we
are not an island, we are all connected.

Diane
