r15.0 to r16.0 migration

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on May 15, 2008
for those have already migrated from 15 to 16 - was it a smooth
transition?
was a bridge class offered? did you attend? if not, would a bridge class
have been helpful? necessary even?
I am looking to migrate before the end of the year and was trying to set
up
a game plan.

thoughts/ecperiences will be greatly appreciated

Re: r15.0 to r16.0 migration
"Hi Chris,

We migrated from version 14 to 16 in late 2005 and had no problems with
the install.

We have a homegrown signon that checks RACF security and sends the user
to the correct database depending on where the user came from (which
vtam line and what their RACF group is) by having a signon autotask
defined for each lterm. We encountered a problem where the people that
were allowed to be at the command line (us technical types) hung but
recompiling an assembler program that turned off the autotask for the
terminal did the ""trick"" (a bridge joke).

It was the first install I did on my own. I just followed the directions
so no bridge class was necessaary.

Hope this helps,
Petra

What version of the z/OS are you on Chris? You must be looking at 16.0
post sp2?

Re: r15.0 to r16.0 migration
"Chris, we went from R15 SP6 to R16 SP3 at Z/OS 1.7 (if my failing
memory serves correctly). As always you need to reassemble exits etc.
but basically, things worked.

We are currently running SP4 under Z/OS 1.8. We have SP6 in a DBA
sandbox environment but haven't started applications testing yet. I
can keep you posted on developments with that roll-out.

If you are going to R16 SP5 or SP6, you should have a fairly easy
transition.
