Re:Re: Passing data to new task

Hi Kay:

As I'm sure you're aware, you can't pass a parameter list to a task via DC
ATTACH. However, you can pass a parameter list via DC SETIME (use
TYPE=WAIT,INTVL=0). I've used this before, so please feel free to email me
directly if you'd like additional information about SETIME.

Of course, you can use DC ATTACH, but you'll have to use conventional data
passing structures/methodologies, including user storage,
Scratch/Queue/database records, etc.

All of the above options have various ramifications, but SETIME is probably
the very easiest to implement.

Regards,

Tom Schoenborn

What is the best way to pass data to a new task intiated by a DC ATTACH
command?

"idms 16.0 install ""opportunities"""
"a few things I have picked up so far ...

1) if you are downloading the install tape from the internet, after you
have unzipped and uploaded the .EDS to a file (U/0/4096), run the
following jobs:

//jobcard
//*
//DISPLAY EXEC PGM=CAESDR,PARM='NOIO'
//SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=*
//*
//DISK DD DISP=SHR,DSN=uploaded file
//*

this will show a list of datasets within the ""logical"" tape

in the output - look for the following:

--- File 0001 Starting ---

the next line will contain the name of what will be the first dataset on
the tape.

then run this job:

//CREATE EXEC PGM=CAESDR,
// PARM='NOVOL,FILE1DSN=unique replacement name for first dataset on tape'
//SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=*
//*
//TAPE DD DISP=(,CATLG,DELETE),UNIT=TAPE,LABEL=EXPDT=99000,
// DSN=same as FILE1DSN from parm
//*
//DISK DD DISP=SHR,DSN=uploaded file

the above job will ask for a scratch tape, copy the ""logical tape"" to a
""physical"" tape (or whatever passes for a physical tape in your shop)
and CATALOGS the first dataset on the tape

why do this? the above job removes the need for Bypass Label Processing,
which our shop does not allow without jumping through hoops, and I am too
old to jump.
cautions? any references to the old volser (G0GJ6B) must be replaced with
the VOLSER upon which these datasets were cataloged
(I did not try the NOVOL option, but my understanding is that using that
parm would have allowed whatever tape was mounted to rewritten as G0GJ6B,
if you have a junk tape you wish to use, you COULD specify a volser in the
TAPE DD to force a specific tape rather than a tape from the scratch pool)

2) in the DOWNLOAD members of both the idms and tools tape, the reference
to the input VOLSER is incorrect - in the JCL it is G0GJ5B - it should be
changed to G0GJ6B
(of course if you dod #1 above - it needs to be changed anyhow ...) (this
may only be in the downloaded version - the actual delivered tape may not
have this ""opportunity"")

getting ptfs for IDMS
"hello all

is there a ""ptf bucket"" for CA-IDMS (as CA has for other products) where
all PTFs and HOLDDATA for a product can be FTP'd? or am I still required to
go to the DOWNLOAD center and select the fixes I want?

thanks,
