Retrieve lpar name from ADS dialog

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Jun 13, 2008
Hello list,

We have three CVs with the same CV number running on three different
lpars. In an ADS dialog we want to test which lpar the CV is running
on.

Is there a way to retrieve the lpar name from an ADS dialog?
Alternatively can this be done from an assembler program?

Thanks for any help!

Re: Retrieve lpar name from ADS dialog
"Hello Hans -

Via ADS? I doubt it, but I'm far from any kind of an authority on ADS,
so I'll let others speak to this.

However, if my memory serves me correctly (and that's a big leap of
faith, folks) I think that on newer processors somewhere in the CPUID
(which is of course accessible with an Assembler program) contains an
LPAR identifier which is set somewhere on the hardware console where
your LPARs are actually defined. Not having had a physical CPU on site
for almost five years now, though, my memory is fading . . . and I know
that the last processor we had didn't have this feature anyway, but I do
seem to remember reading about it somewhere . . .

Anyway, check with your SE (do they still have those?); if they're worth
their salt they should know one way or another . . .

HTH,

Mike
