Re:Maintain Index

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Jul 2, 2008
I am moving a system owned index to some new page ranges. I usually do this with the DB Reorg tool but decided to use the Maintain Index utility, running this in two steps as noted in the manual. I cannot get it to work using two steps. (the one step Maintain Index works fine to rebuild indexes). I am sure someone has run the Maintain Index using two or more steps. The system is 16.1 z/OS.

Here are the steps I have for the utility.

Step 1.

//SYSIDMS DD *
DMCL=Current-DMCL
USERCAT=OFF
/*
//SYSIPT DD *
CONNECT TO SYSTEM;
MAINTAIN INDEX IN SEGMENT seg-name
USING current-ssc NEWSUB new-ssc
STEP IDMSTABX
REBUILD Index-name FROM INDEX

Step 2.

//SYSIDMS DD *
DMCL=new-dmcl (new dmcl renamed to the current dmcl and in different
library as per the documentation)
USERCAT=OFF
/*
//SYSIPT DD *
CONNECT TO SYSTEM;
MAINTAIN INDEX IN SEGMENT seg-name
USING current-ssc NEWSUB new-ssc
FROM SORT3
;

The most recent error is a bind failure.

Re: Maintain Index

Hi Jim,

I was hoping someone would reply tonight so I could give this a try. You =
were correct that I had both the 'rebuild' statement missing and the =
usercat=3Doff. I made both changes but still received a bind error.=20

I then edited the RELDCTL file to put in the new dmcl and segment name. =
That fixed the message problem but there is still a bind error. I also =
did an IDMSLOOK with the parm=3Dbind subschema... Dbname=3D. This =
showed everything like it should be for the new subschema and dmcl.
After thinking about what was going on in the remaining steps, I finally =
got it to work by change the parms completely in step two.=20

MAINTAIN INDEX IN SEGMENT new-segment-name =20
USING new-subschema =20
FROM SORT3 =20
REBUILD index-name FROM INDEX =20

As in many cases, the manual was not very helpful.

Thanks for your help.=20
