Re:Commit Logic Summary

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Aug 6, 2008
Hi,

We have some ""challenged"" individuals here who need an understanding,
and example of how/when to place commit logic in IDMS/COBOL programs.
Our team cannot get through to them, nor do we have the time to deal
with this and train them.

Would anyone have anything written geared towards developers?

Regards,

Navid

Re: Commit Logic Summary
"If these are batch jobs that are taking in input from flat files or other
places, database transactions records, it may be important to keep track of
how far they read through the input records. I've put commit records in the
database so that in the event of an abend after a commit, the restart of the
job doesn't apply changes twice from the input file. This really depends on
the makeup of the program and the design of the app.

David, if you want more info on this setup for the programmers, feel free to
contact me offline from the list and I'd be glad to share.
