Re:Multitasking - is it worth it?

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Oct 2, 2008
I have a system which is purely Batch and CICS. There is no IDMS DC or ADS.

Would multitasking bring me any advantage or would it just be an overhead?

R16 SP6 . Z/OS 1.9. 4 processor large IBM thing - I lose track of the model numbers.

My system is well buffered and uses dataspaces extensively CPU availability is my issue. There is no paging and I/O is not a problem.

Thanks for any tips.

Re: Multitasking - is it worth it?
"Our ADSO and CICS transactions run via UCF to our IDMS CV's from CICS and Batch. Multiple CICS's to multiple IDMS CV's. We have a mixed bag of applications, some apps are true CICS coded applications running with Native IDMS not SQL within the CICS transaction. We also have CICS activating IDMS tasks running within the CV and Batch an ONLINE CICS executing ADSO tasks. Hope this answers your question. If the CICS transaction is activated it runs under CICSBULK. I think in my original email I said CICSBATCH. Haste makes waste.

See CICSBULK task below which controls the STALL for CiCS tasks.
