Not sure what you need to know here. We are using JDBC from Java applications to access IDMS with IDMS Server and the SQL option. Works a treat. Very fast. Very efficient.

At the moment this bridge is used primarily to download security information to the midrange environment (our security rules are in an IDMS database), and to do authentication against RACF using userid/password via a SQL Function! We can also effect password changes if the user's password has expired - a different function of course!

We have a few other queries that we use regularly but at the moment our security checking is the most heavily used query.
