Re:Mystery queue

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Jun 11, 2009
I am seeing queues on our test CV's that are named ""Oxxxxxxx"", where the x'=
s are a user ID. Does anyone know if one of the tool kit products creates =
these queues?

I'm confused by the phrase ""after we have gone thru all 8 journals"".

Do you mean after normal activity has kicked off 8 offloads? If so, the
pattern here would be ""normal""; if when j2jrnl and j3jrnl were offloaded
there were long-running run-units active at the time of the offload, causing
a bunch of BFOR images to be left in the prior segment(s). These should go
away with the next offload/compress.

Have you gone through successive offloads (of the same journal) and the
stuff is still there?

George

After analyzing your ""Display Journals"", I see ""STUFF"" in three of the
eight journals - J1, J2, and J3.
All three have a relatively high ""LoRBN"".

This high ""LoRBN"" is probably due to a single rogue ""update"" run unit
which made a huge number of additions, changes, and/or deletions to
your database without execution a COMMIT.

So, when the activity of the rogue ""update"" run unit filled the ACTive
CV journal,
the CV switched to the next available CV journal,
your WTOREXIT noticed the event and submitted an ""ARCHIVE JOURNAL""
with the ""AUTO"" option.

The submitted ""ARCHIVE JOURNAL"" task:
copied all BEFORE and AFTER images to the archive journal file, then
compressed the CV journal being offloading by removing:

1. all AFTER images
2. all BEFORE images which belong To:

COMMITted recovery units and
FINISHed tasks

The retained BEFORE images are ""compressed"" into the first part of the
CV journal and utilize the CV journal blocks up to (but not including)
the LoRBN.

After the offending rogue run unit:
COMMITs it's work, or
FINISHes, or
ABENDs and all it's changes are rolled back,
these retained ""BEFORE images"" on a CV journal will be
automatically removed the by the ""ARCHIVE JOURNAL""
1. the next time the CV Journal is archived and compressed or
2. After the CV is successfully SHUTDOWN, and the ""ARCHIVE JOURNAL""
is run with the ""ALL"" option.

So, to summarize:
1. This ""STUFF"" represents the space required to retain
the BEFORE images of un-COMMITted recovery units which were
active when the CV journal filled and was ARCHIVEd.
2. This ""STUFF"" will be automatically removed (cleaned up) after the
offending run-unit ends and the CV journal is again offloaded and
compressed.

I would try to identify the offending program/task/job to determine
what it was trying to accomplish, and try to to make its recovery
unit(s) smaller.

It may well have caused a short-on-storage due to the memory needed
to maintain the DBKEYs of the records locked by it's non-COMMITted
changes.
