[IDMS-L] IDMS Connections - call for submissions for September 2009

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Jul 7, 2009
Issue

The summer solstice has been celebrated at Stonehenge, the Canadians have
had their country's birthday bash, the American's had theirs the day after
my birthday and the French are soon to celebrate Bastille Day (their Fete
Nationale) - just where has the year gone? Of course the culmination of all
of these events means that it's time to get ready for the next major event
of the year - the release of the September 2009 IDMS Connections.

You should all be aware that each issue of Connections requires input from
various regular contributors, and the occasional new contributor, to give us
the content required to maintain the high standard that Connections (both in
its IUA and IDMS form) has always had - thus - here is an open call for
people amongst the IDMS User community to tell us about anything that you
think may be of interest to the rest of the community:

* WHAT do you do with IDMS? Tell us about interesting or unusual
applications, new developments and/or mission critical applications

* HOW do you do it? Provide technical tips for DBA's, hints for application
developers, change control, project management techniques

* WHY do you do it? Why was a mid-range platform not selected for example

* What does IDMS or applications built on IDMS/ADS do to ""add value to the
business""

Could everybody who reads this, who plans to provide an article, please let
me know ASAP with at least a ""title"" so that we can try to build up a ""table
of contents"" to give us some idea as to how we are going for pushing another
quality issue out the door. If I know you are planning to submit an article
I can send you out the ""Guidelines for Contributors to Connections""
document, which you will find useful to help to minimise your work and
reduce duplication of effort by our publisher. If you would like to make a
contribution to Connections I will need your completed submission by Monday
August 24th (Tuesday 25th in Asia-Pacific), for publication in September.

And a special thought for vendors - any new products that you would like to
tell people about? Perhaps a gentle reminder about some products that have
been around for a while that people may have forgotten about. Either way,
why not tell the IDMS User Community about your product offering? Placing a
¼ page, ½ page or full page ad in the next issue will be a terrific way of
reminding people that your organisation and products are still out there
ready to do their bit to help people in creating their own IDMS success
story!

We continue to get a good number of positive and enthusiastic comments from
our readers! In fact, ""the team"" has done so well that at last year's CARE
conference the IUA was presented with an award for ""Best Practice for a User
Group Newsletter"" - so let's try to keep up the good work!

Thanks in advance - looking forward to your
contributions, thoughts and feedback - cheers - Gary

"Hi Jerry,

I think you can output your request to another file with the OUTPUT
parameter, and the command will not be echoed.

SET OPTIONS
OUTPUT TO filename
;

Good luck,

"Along the same lines, I have included a literal at the beginning of the
detail lines and then used Syncsort to INCLUDE the lines with the
literal, then reformat the output to drop the literal. You only get
data that way regardless of what other junk creeps in.=20
