Re:Alias usage report?

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Jul 27, 2009
I need to determine if a dataset alias name was actually used in JCL.

Does anyone know of any data, which may answer this question?

I believe the only answer is to use Search-For Utility against a list of
PDS's.

"Hi Steve

I think SMF 14/15 only reports the real dataset name, not the alias name.
If SMF does contain fields relating back to an alias name, please share
those field names. This would be a ""perfect world"" solution.

All,

I elected to use the batch ""search for"" utility. It is invoked via one
line statement. hence allowing for ease of pasting a whole lot of dataset
names.

//SF063 EXEC SEARCH,LIBNAME=libname

Hi Rob,

Do you have Endevor there? If so there is a scan Utility that can search
all library's and can change them if you want to. Another option would
be INSYN or Fileaid. If you don't know who is using it SMF record type
14 will tell who/what has read it.
