I am never sure whether programs, maps, dialogs etc should be defined in th=
e SYSGEN or whether it's better to use automatic program definition.
What do people do out there? Are there any pros/cons for either method?

Re: Defining Programs in SYSGEN
"We use automatic program definition for all ADS dialogs, maps, and tables. This saves lots of time and bother for the both the programmers and the DBA. Make sure that your ""undefined program count"" in the SYSGEN is large enough for all of the above.

DC-COBOL and assembler programs must be defined in the SYSGEN.

We used to define highly-used programs as resident. (See Chris H's note.) But we no longer do this now that we can make the program pools large enough to hold all of the programs.
