Re:Re: [IDMSVENDOR-L] 17.0 Upgrade

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Jan 28, 2010
We downloaded the software Nov 1 2008 - we were fully in production April
19 2009

I will try to go back thru my notes and get a more detailed timeline

from what I have read - a migration from 16 to 17 is VERY painless - from
15 to 17 requires a bit more work (because of the things you would have
been bitten by had you gone to 16 first ...)

you only need to test the programs that you want to work correctly

How long is everyone taking to install 17.0? I'm talking about from the
day
you download it from CA to the day you are 100% running in production. The
site I support is upgrading from 16.0 SP7 to 17.0 SP1.

Re: 17.0 Upgrade
"I downloaded in November as well and narrowly missed the race with Chris
H. I went Prod on April 26.

As a straight install I could have gone a lot quicker. We wanted R17 for
the z/IIP processing and so I had a lot of benchmarking and learning to
do before I was happy to run z/IIP. But the management had bought the
z/IIP processor and were really keen to use it and get the TCO charges
down so - for a change - they actually wanted me to upgrade the
software. Normally I have to fight to move forward. =20

If you are going to R17 and especially z/IIP then I suggest you go SP1.
In fact go SP1 anyway. It will save you some pain.

I have R17 SP1 plus a few APARs now. It looks good to me. =20
