RLEs Increased, then BOOM!

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Feb 26, 2010
We received the RLE messages below just before our CV crashed. The CV was =
humming along happily before this problem and it warmstarted fine afterward=
. Neither task 550832 nor 551906 appear in any of the logs. The other tas=
ks listed in the messages look like innocent bystanders. Any suggestions o=
n where to begin the hunt for the perp?

"Re: RLEs Increased, then BOOM!"
"When a program suddenly starts grabbing lots of RLE's the first thing we look for is a ""storage grabber"" - such as a long running (usually batch) program with no COMMIT policy - it keeps grabbing more storage for ""lock table entries"". If you have lots of storage I'd expect to see RLE's being chewed up - with less storage you might expect to go SOS before blowing RLE's ?

Just a thought - cheers - Gary
