Kay - i do not hink we saw any overhead - but i cannot be sure - I would
recommend opening an issue with CA on this - have you applied all known
ZIIP PTFs ?

We have tried the new R17 zIIP simulation, which means turning on IDMS
zIIP=3D
without actually having a zIIP processor. The results were promising.

However, we made an unpleasant discovery. We experienced a CPU increase
of=3D
30% or more, and a noticeable increase in online response time. This is
b=3D
ecause turning zIIP on, even as a simulation, has a significant overhead
of=3D
its own. Since we do not yet have a zIIP processor, nothing was
actually=3D
offloaded to the zIIP to compensate for the additional overhead.

I do not in any way mean to imply that you should not try this. It is a
ne=3D
cessary first step in justifying the purchase of a zIIP processor. It is
g=3D
reat that CA has supplied this feature. Just be aware that there is a
cost=3D
to using it, and consider warning your users ahead of time.

RHDCEV08
"Hello All:

Anybody out there know why RHDCEV08 is link edited with RMODE(24)?

If you include this in the link edit of ADSOMAIN the binder will force
ADSOMAIN to have an RMODE of 24 and it will loose its Refreshable link edit
attribute as well.

I have applied UMOD#BIF to ADSOMAIN but pulled RHDCEV08 because of this
issue.

When I removed RHDCEV08 ADSOMAIN link edited properly with the REEN, REUS
and REFR attributes and RMODE(ANY).

"yes - all our major ziip usage has been in CVs where there is NO ADS -
just CICS COBOL DML calls and CV to CV UCF DML calls

Already done. CA acknowledges the overhead. We are not the first site to
=
report this.

It is especially noticeable with online ADS processing. I believe that
you=
r pilot project involved the IDMS equivalent of a file-owning region? So
l=
ittle or no user code was involved?
