Re:Convert IDMS DDL to Relational DDL

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Apr 1, 2010
Does anyone know of, or have, a program\routine that can be used to convert IDMS DDL to relational DDL (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server) and vice versa? We want to be able to reverse engineer IDMS schemas into PowerDesigner for model documentation purposes.

Thank you,

Re: Debugging DC-COBOL (Enterprise COBOL)
"Alex -

I've never really needed to struggle through COBOL debugging in this manner.
I choose the LIST option to get the assembler XREF for the compile.
This has always been all I've ever needed for finding a problem.

Thanks.

Has anyone had success finding working storage/linkage section items in
a log dump for DC-COBOLs compiled with Enterprise Cobol?

We have a mix of LE DC-COBOLs (IBM ENTERPRISE COBOL FOR Z/OS 3.3.0) and
OS/VS DC-COBOLs (CB1 RELEASE 2.4, don't laugh)

I haven't had any problems debugging the OS/VS using instructions from
the Debugger manual (R13 points to TGT, etc) but the manual (R16 SP2) is
a bit vague on subsequent compiler versions (R9 'usually' points to
TGT).

Fun to play with.....

But then, I need to work for a living.
So when play time is over, I go back and use traditional tools.

Thanks.

I beta tested Visual DBA release 17 (after already having IDMS release
17 in production) - i think it is a useful tool, especially for those
accustomed to a GUI environment of managing a database. Do I use it? NO
- i am simply too much of an old dog to learn and use new tricks - could
I use it in a pinch? yes - but i am just to accustomed and comfortable
with the 3270-format command environment. but i think it is a GREAT tool
for IDMS DBA: the next generation

Good Morning All,

Has anyone used IDMS Visual DBA? What was your experience with it? Do
you find it useful? I have just install Rel. 17 and was thinking about
installing the new release of IDMS Visual DBA. I have not used its prior
version. I have used Oracle's Enterprise Studio when I was working with
Oracle 9I. Thanks for you insight.

Re: Debugging DC-COBOL (Enterprise COBOL)
"Admittedly, not a process that's followed here (or anywhere else I would
imagine) with any regularity.
We do have a couple of doozy DC-COBOLs and although yesterday's abend
involved a relatively simple one (and I do have the LIST, XREF
available), the nature of the failure is still quite elusive.

I've just found the description in the debugger manual for OS/VS is
quite good; it's frustrating that there is no equivalent for LE COBOL. =20
