Re:Secured SVC Using Local Mode Fast Access

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Apr 6, 2010
I've started the upgrade to Release 17, and in doing so, have decided to
embrace CA's recommendation, following the steps to install a secured
SVC. Everything seemed fine, and my testing was all successful.

However, later in the day, programmers started getting SExx abends. I
was able to narrow this down to only local mode jobs that also used Fast
Access. Has anyone else encountered this?

non-default code page
"The code page ""CP1140F"" provided in the DISTSRC library provides full support for code page 1140, while the default version of RHDCCODE supports only a subset of code page 1140. Does anyone know why this is?

We would like to switch to ""CP1140F"" in order to be able to display English/Spanish translations properly, but I don't want to break any of our existing applications. I am thinking that there must be a reason why ""CP1140F"" is not the default version of RHDCCODE. Has anyone experienced any problems caused by using ""CP1140F"" instead of the default version?

Some sad financial news about CA
"From the financial news:

CA to axe 1,000 jobs

Expects $50m in restructuring costs

CA is laying off 1,000 workers and expects to take a $50m hit in pre-tax
charges relating to the jobs cull.

The business software maker said in a US Securities and Exchange Commission
filing <http://investor.ca.com/secfiling.cfm?filingID=950123-10-32261>
today that its board had approved the painful company rejig last week. The
jobs will go by 2011.

The news sent CA shares down six per cent. The vendor said it expected to
cough up $47m in severance pay and a further $3m in ""global facilities
consolidation costs"", which will mainly hit CA's 2011 financial year.

""These actions are intended to better align the company's cost structure
with the skills and resources required to more effectively pursue
opportunities in the marketplace and execute the company's long-term growth
strategy,"" said CA.

The firm said it now expected full-year adjusted earnings per share to be
around the $1.60 mark, which is at the low end of its previous outlook.

Shares in CA were trading at $22.96 before Wall Street opened this morning.
They closed at $23.85 on Nasdaq yesterday. R

Re: just curious ...
"Yep - still remember the 5 stepper. The single step is probably the original ""mash up"" - being the JCL for all 5 steps merged into one step - and executing a ""controller"" that ""calls"" each of the 5 steps internally - you can still get the reports from each step - if you wish - for old times sake!

Just as I sometimes get the assembler list for Cobol programs for debugging - I find that the compiled list of a Culprit report can sometimes be similarly enlightening if you're trying to work out why something isn't working out ?

Wouldn't it be embarrassing if one of the ""culled"" staff has been put up for an ""Employee Recognition Award"" at CA-World? Let's hope the left hand and the right hand are communicating !
