I am thinking of converting Journal Archives, Log off-loads and backups
from 3490 Cart to VTS.=A0 VTS is set to emulate a 3490 drive.

Has any one seen any issues or concerns other than Off-site recovery?

Has any one done a roll forward and backward with the VTS?=A0 I remember in
the distant past there was a new tape drive that came out and you couldn't
read backward for a rollback.

Paul,  I have used virtual tape for backups as well as journal and log offloads for a couple of years now.   I have restored backups and done rollforward and rollback recoveries with no problems observed.

In addition,  for D/R,  I run journal extracts when we offload journals and transmit the extract files to our D/R site where they are automagically applied to keep our D/R databases current.

As I approach the end of my tenure at Reed Elsevier Technology Services
(a.k.a. LEXIS NEXIS), I can't help but think ""what a long, strange trip
it's been"". 25 years at RETS and 32 doing IDMS database and systems
administration.

I'd like to thank all on this list who have contributed their knowledge
and wisdom over the years making life a bit easier for many of us.

As I embark on retirement in ""the third half of my life"", I will still
try to keep in touch via IDMSVENDOR-L (it's kinda hard to totally let go
:-)).

Farewell.

Re: idms groups
"Hi Tracie:

Glad to hear you're still working on IDMS, and I fondly remember that trip
to Westwood with the UAL team so many years ago...

I still hold regular meetings for the RMIUA, complete with cold adult
beverages, walks down 'memory lane', etc. The fact that I'm the only
attendee has not reduced my appetite for the occasions ;-}}

And yes, Lutz, there are still active users in Colorado. The hotel and car
reservation systems still chug along in the friendly skies, IHS still relies
on IDMS for the customer and engineering systems (backbone of the business),
and there are other IDMS applications still running at a few of the other
old customers.

I'll turn down the last light someday, but not quite yet...
