How in the world do you do a knowledge base search in this NEW &

"I believe the length option is available only for COBOL 85 (SIEMENS?).

""TO location"" is required only for compiler option ""COBOL=1"", I believe
that with ""COBOL=2"" it uses the length of the 01 level qualifier for
allocating the storage. When retrieving the storage the entire chunk of
storage is returned, based on the actual length of the allocated storage.

I just checked about a dozen DC-Cobol programs with GET STORAGE - none use
the LENGTH option - they all use TO end-data-item form. Not definitive but
I wonder if there's a reason none of them use the LENGTH option? Cheers
