Fw: .bin files for R17 apars
"The download/upload process suggested by John worked like a charm.
Unfortunately, the new module replacement strategy being used for fixes
means that you've got to include all modifications made to the load module
    (s) up to that point - whether you are really interested in applying them
or not. The one fix I wanted ended up spawning 10 altogether - including a
bunch of ZIIP-related ones when my client doesn't have a ziip processor
(etc.). On the other hand, CA builds the package of fixes for you so it's
    not a huge additional workload.

    Thanks for the help.

    Hi Dave,

Upload them as binary to an FB 80 file or PDS member and then process them
    with SMP/E.

I am now using CA'S free Mainframe Software Manager Version 3.0 that makes
this whole process much much easier.

    IDMS Basic Training
"A new person has just transferred to my IDMS Support team and needs basic
IDMS training. CA offers Concepts & Facilities and DBA Bootcamp, but
neither is scheduled anywhere. What have other companies done recently to
get newbies trained in IDMS? I found some 3rd party CBT and on-site courses
listed on the web, but I'm concerned that the listings may be out of date.
If you feel the need to express strong opinions about any of the available
vendor services, please send to me off-list.

I can think of a couple of reasons:

    A) Shop standards state that no program will use EXCLUSIVE UPDATE.
    B) Shop standards state that all programs will use EXCLUSIVE UPDATE.
(Make everything single threaded - doesn't make sence to me.)
    C) On an individual basis, the subschema is a global subschema and you
don't want to lock out all of the areas in the SS (because of a global
    READY statement.)

I can think of only a few situations where EXCLUSIVE updating would be
appropriate. I don't think we have any EXCLUSIVE's here at the RMV.
(We've also gotten rid of our batch local update programs for both ease
of recovery and data warehouse problems caused by local updating changes
not making it to the warehouse.)
