Suprocess calling creates multiple process instances

I have a main process (triggered on update event) binded to change request object (with project as the linked object). In one of the step of main process i am calling a subprocess (binded to the project object with the template selected). I have given the common id to the project object (thisProject) in main process and subprocess. But each time my main process reaches the step for calling suprocess another instance of main process gets intitiated, thus leading to multiple instances of the main process being created.

While adding the subprocess to the step I have choosen the synchronous option for it.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.
