Tuesday Tip by Vijay Masurkar, Principal Support Engineer, for 1-17-2012

Q: Of the 8GB (Disk Space required for Report Server) how much is required for the software and how much is for the Report database? Is there a way of estimating how large an Oracle database is required for the Report database?

A: Every database product is different and has specific requirements depending on the user’s opeartional needs and the projected growth of reports.

Most of the 8 GB is required by the software itself. But, here's some general guideline for sizing, with the size of 1 BOE XI/report object around 1024 bytes, and each row stores 1 report object. And, note that Suppot typically doesn’t get into sizing recommendations, so you’ll still need to confirm with CA Servicers and/or Oracle when involved in critical deployments.

Number of Objects(reports): 10,000; Database File Size (in KB): 33,312
Number of Objects(reports); 100,000; Database File Size (in KB):
    333,125
Number of Objects(reports); 1,000,000; Database File Size (in KB):
    3,331,250
Number of Objects(reports); 10,000,000; Database File Size (in KB):
    33,312,500

Please refer to the Oracle Manual Performance Tuning Guide and Reference for further details, and work with Oracle Support.
