  • 1.  Is it possible to move Resource Allocation from Project 123 to Project 789

    Hi,

    Am using Clarity 12.1.1.1208 1 003 (Version/Build).

We use Master and Sub in our project's hierarchy. We promote the Project:Team :Detail page to our users to key in their project's demand (Allocation and Hard Allocation). Is it possible to move Resource Allocation of Named Resource/Unfilled Role from Project 123 to Project 789? Can the feature 'Copy from Template' be extended to copy/move Resource Allocation?

When you create a project from a template, the following information is copied from the template to the new project:
    - general project attributes and any custom fields
    - staff, participants, and participant groups. You can copy over multiple roles for each entry on the template and maintain distinct assignments for each role
    - tasks, Work Breakdown Structures (if they exist in the template), and task assignments
    - financial plans (budget or forecast)
    ......

If a resource is defined in the template, the resource (or role) allocation fields (that is, % Allocation and Allocation are copied over accurately into the new project so that the ETC lines up with the allocation fields. Any hard-booked resources on the source template are converted to soft booked.
Instead of copying all of a template project’s contents "as is," you can scale the project’s overall work estimate and budget by a percentage you choose.

    Field Name
    Scale Work By

    Description
Enter the percentage amount by which you want to increase or decrease the work estimates on each task for the new project, relative to the template.

When you create New from template the allocation segments are are copied for that time range that exists in the new project.
For the new project life span outside the source life span the default allocation is used.
If you set the new project start and finish so that it does not overlap with the template project the allocations are for the project life span, but the segments are not copied.
Tasks and assignments are copied as well the ETC matches the ETC in the source not the allocation unless the ETC is lined up with allocation in the soruce project.

Copy from is used for tasks and that can copy assignments (the resources assigned to those tasks and ETC), but it does not copy allocations. The assigned resources get the default allocation. In order to copy from there must be tasks in the source project at least the effort task.
After copying they can be removed and the assigned resources stay in the project team and the allocations remain.
