Restrict access when opening report via a link

I am testing the setup of some new user accounts that we want to be very restricted. We have a link icon in our Projects list view that launches a custom Crystal report. I don't want these restricted users to be able to open this report, even though the icon is visible to them on the list view page. I did not grant them access to run any reports when I assigned their security privileges. The only accesses they have are related to viewing and editing some project information. They can't navigate to the Reports page or anything like that. However that link still works to launch the report. How can I prevent this? My "blunt object" solution was to just disable the Business Objects account for the restricted user which prevents them from running any report at all. I think this will be OK but I'm wondering if there is another way to accomplish the end result.
