    Which database?
Is database on the app server, too?
    What app server OS?
What kind of CPU's and how many.
    How much physical memory?
    How many niku services?
How long for login screen to open?

Are the following different for the admin and other users?

How long to open first page after login?
How long for project list to open? How many projects?
How long to open scheduled jobs.

Describe your Clarity and db regular maintenance.

The database itself (and not just the simple server stats - you could cripple a Clartity installation very easily by doing something relatively trivial at database level) - saying "CPU/memory" makes me think you are just looking at the APP server, the DB server is vital too!

Your network could be an issue also?

(Edit : Martti just posted at the same time as me! cool)

But as he says - for anyone to help you, you need to tell us a lot more information!)

    Thanks.
All actions are slow nothing specific
    That ain't slow.
Slow is when you get over 20 seconds response times and very slow if you get over two minutes.
Your response times tell that the network is not a bottleneck, neither is access to Clarity or the functionality.
Do you get longer response times anywhere?
If you want faster than that join the Great Lakes Clarity user community and download the presentation where Steve tells how they squeezed out the last bit of performance.
If you have 32 bit systems and four Clarity services how much physical memory is in use? It has to be under 3.8 Gig at all times otherwise your system will start swapping and you'll see the performance detoriate.
Which services are those? App, bg nsa and??? You only need nsa up when you are doing something there. If you don´'t have a cluster (pre v13) you don't need beacon.

The db maintenance does not sound much and you don't say anything about Clarity maintenance.

For some things to consider see

What are the best practices/methods to Optimize/maintain Clarity Application.

    in Clarity consultants.
though that is Performance issues with Clarity setup on MSSQL there are also things for Oracle.

Those discussions go back a couple of years, but they are mostly pre v12.

Have look at those and see if you find things that might help you.

    Hi,

Oracle - What version?Hope you are in 10.2.0.4 and above.Go for 64 Bit.

Database - Oracle (You need to work with your DBA and get CA Approval / throughly test it).You can raise with CA support and get their guidance.

    1. Run / Schedule the Oracle Table analyse job - weekly.

    2. Tuned the Below DB parameters:- (we got CA Approval and worked with our DBA)

    Increase the shared_pool_size.

    Increase the SGA_TARGET,sga_max_size,sga_target,db_cache_size.

    optimizer_index_cost_adj

    optimizer_index_caching

    session_cached_cursors

    Increased log buffer.

    Resized the redo logfile.

    3. you can create Indexes for some key transaction tables / custom tables where if any columns are frequently used for your custom reports.

4.If you have written custom nsql queries in custom portlet ensure that it is optimized and the same applicable for custom reports.Even 1 bad query can haunt server performance

5.If you have enabled audit trail re-visit on it.It is all DB triggers written by CA.If it is really essential then keep it otherwise don't use it.

6.Check and work on the "Performance Tuning section - oracle" provided by CA in Installation guide.

7.Data Clean Up Activites - You can work with DBA for Archival / Cleanup process.

8.Schedule the db intensive jobs (data mart job and investment allocation job) on night (After peak hours).

    cheers,
    sundar

    Excellent point Sundar, thank you.

There is also the Global community sandbox.
Though that is v12.1.1 just for comparison you can see how a remote system responds.

This is my CPU usage, is this normal?

  • 13.  RE: Slowness in clarity 8.0

    Posted May 16, 2012 06:36 PM
That looks normal to me if you have job scheduler running.
The last time I looked was in r8.1. At the time I was concerned about the peaks and was told that because of those you could not run Clarity on VMWare.
The concern has since then vanished.

You've got some CPU remaining for peaks.

The CPU level depends on what the users are doing.
Years ago I though that if your server is not working flat out you have excess capacity.
However, the thinking seems to bee that you should not have too much CPU in use maybe not more than 50 %. If you do or are at 100 % you do not get any response if you are trying to launch something until the previously launched are finished and the CPU has some capacity again.

I am more worried about the memory usage. It should never exceed the physical memory, because then your system starts swapping and your response is killed again.

These are from r8.1. which has the same java vms as r8.0 (can be seen as the separate entries for niku services in memory usage)
