Adding multiple roles causing issues

We have a unique situation here. We have a project that has the following roles added multiple times. We added a role via project team tab and renamed them as follows

ATM Deigner 1, ATM Designer 2, etc to ATM designer 7. These roles are renamed after Level 3 architect role is added in the team tab.

After the project is open in MSP,

1. Add ATM Designer 1, 2 and 7 to a task and Save it to Clarity
2. Remove ATM designer 7 and Save to Clarity
3. Re-add ATM Designer 7 and save to Clarity

Step 1 and 2 works and I can see the changes in Clarity. However we could never successfully perform step 3. The save completes without any errors, but the changes are not reflected in Clarity. Another strange thing is that when I go to Clarity to look at the allocations after via the task, the role name (ATM Designer 2) displayed, but the role name is null.

Please let me know if anyone came across this situation.
