CA Spectrum Tuesday Tip by Michael S. Poller, CA Spectrum Infrastructure Manager Senior Support Engineer, July 27, 2012

Interface model names are named by Spectrum based on what is populated in various values from MIB objects from the devices MIB.

Interface model names can be configured using Attribute values in Spectrum.

The two attributes that can be use to control the model names for Interface models are:

    Interface Name Primary Suffix
    and/orInterface Name Secondary Suffix

The possible values that can be set on each attribute are:

    Interface Name Primary Suffix
    Index

    PortDescription

    ifAlias

    ifDescr

    ifName

    Interface Name Secondary Suffix
    Index

    None

    PortDescription

    ifAlias

    ifDescr

    ifName

Any combination of the above values can be used to name interface models.

When using the value None for the Interface Name Secondary Suffix attribute value, only the Interface Name Primary Suffix attribute value will be used to determine Interface model names.

These attribute values can be changed on a global, or a per device, basis via the Attribute Editor UI. The Attribute Editor UI is launched from the 'Tools->Utilities' menu selection. It can also be launched from the Right-Click menu off an Interface model or a Device model from the 'Utilities' menu selection.

Different Device and Interface Model_Type values use different default values for these attributes to determine the names to be assigned to Interface models. With this being the case, caution should be taken when making changes to these attributes on a global or SpectroSERVER wide basis, or setting them to be 'Set As Default' using that option present on the Attribute Editor UI.

Fours years later - the question would be why would they change when the Naming suffix was not  changed ?

    Thanks,
