Best practice: Use the ActionObject element in XOG read and write?

Hi all,
I just wanted to gauge opinion on the use of the ActionObject tag when writing XOG read or write operations in GEL scripts.
Chapter 5 of the XML Open Gateway Developer Guide suggests that one should wrap the NikuDataBus element within an ActionObject element and the code examples within the document support this technique.
However, the code examples for parsing the read responses don't appear to include the ActionObject element in the XPATH string used to read a value, so I'm a little confused as to best practice.
I have written the majority of my scripts without the ActionObject tag and all appears to be well. I then changed one of them to use the ActionObject tag and then realised a number of other changes were required in order to continue to parse the responses correctly (including adding a new namespace declaration).
So, I just wanted to hear other more experienced users' opinions before I commit one way or the other.
