CA Tuesday Tip: (CA IDMS) What is the "control length" of a DB record?

The "control length" of a database record is defined as those fields from the start of the record layout up to and including the last one which is a key field for either the calc key
or any index.

Fields inside the control length cannot be compressed.

This can have significant meaning for compressed records, because it means that if you add a new index (or delete an existing one), and as a result the control length is changed, then you must run a RESTRUCTURE against the record in addition to whatever maintenance is needed to create the index.
